Joan Wofford began as a teacher of English in both the suburbs and the inner-city of Washington, DC and as a teacher trainer at Yale and Howard Universities.  She was deeply involved in educational reform, creating one of the models for the National Teacher Corps in 1963.  From 1966 until 2006, she worked as an organizational consultant and trainer, teaching interpersonal skills and organizational dynamics both in Boston area colleges and universities and to non-profit organizations and businesses in this country and in Europe.  She is the co-author of three books.

She is also the niece and one of the three executors of Viola W. Bernard.
